What You'll Do
Here's the no-nonsense answer ...
This work requires, and develops, your courage. We will start our work together with a 20-minute "no charge" session for both of us to decide if we are comfortable working together. Strict confidentiality is part of psychotherapy and your confidentiality is protected, even if you decide not to proceed.
As a trained therapist, I’m not shocked by all those "crazy" thoughts and feelings you are having. You will benefit from the wisdom of someone who deals with sensitive issues in a professional and confidential manner. My relationship with you will be based on building and maintaining trust. I'll teach you new skills and new ways of thinking about problems, you'll give me input as to what is helpful and what is not, and we will continuously evaluate your progress and your direction.
You are always in control … you may always decline, or stop, or change, any direction that we explore. I will use "motivational interviewing" to discover the real meaning of your words. I may use any number of interventions in a very flexible way incorporating humor, paradoxical statements, or perhaps reversing the meaning of your statements (i.e: "I hate my mother" reversed to," I love my mother", or "I hate myself"). I may use EMDR (a specific therapeutic process, using eye movements) or EFT (rhythmical body tapping) with the intent to desensitize your reactions to thoughts or feelings --- and you may feel distress as frozen emotions and grief begin to surface. I may offer a comment based on my experiences with which you may disagree. I may offer advice, which you may consider or decline. I may offer optional affirmations or homework that I believe will support your progress. As I said, you are always in control ~ this is your process.
Sometimes an initial assessment is all you need to evaluate
your situation and
explore your options!

You'll learn to think outside of the box with insight and humor!
As my client, you will be challenged to examine any behavior, belief system, attitude or relationship that may be impacting your physical, mental, emotional or spiritual health, or negatively impacting someone else. Should you decide any of your relationships are not in your best interest, including our relationship, I will support you in making closure in a safe and healthy manner that is respectful to both parties. I will ask you to sign a statement that you understand and agree to this perspective. We will be partners to promote courageous change in your life. |
